Katie Poma was named the assistant for the first-ever womens’ basketball program at Bay College.
Her recent coaching experience includes seventh grade girls’ coach at Gladstone Middle School in Gladstone, Michigan, (2016-2017) as well as freshman girls’ coach at Gladstone High School (2011-2016), where her main focus was fundamentally developing players for the varsity girls’ program.
Prior to that, Poma was varsity assistant coach for Gladstone’s Girls’ (2010-2011) as well as her alma mater North Central Area Schools girls’ basketball program in Powers, Michigan (2009-2010).
Poma graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and then in 2015 from Central Michigan University with a master’s degree in Educational Technology. She has been a middle school math and science teacher at Gladstone Schools since 2010.
She and her husband Richard, varsity boys’ basketball coach at Rapid River High School, welcomed their first son, Alex, this past November and are eager for this upcoming basketball season. Katie is awaiting the chance to make history as a part of the first female athletic team to compete here at Bay College.
